BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, TEXAS – At approximately 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 6th, Big Bend National Park was notified that an adult female hiker needed assistance along the Upper Burro Mesa Trail. Temperatures at the time were approximately 95 degrees F. Rangers responded and found CPR already in progress when they arrived on the scene. A team of rangers, volunteers, and other hikers performed CPR for approximately one hour. Unfortunately, all attempts to revive the subject were unsuccessful.
The individual was identified as a 51-year old female from who was visiting Big Bend with her husband. The Upper Burro Mesa Trail is a popular route through a scenic canyon within the remote western desert of Big Bend National Park
“I offer my deep appreciation for all who responded to this tragic event” stated Superintendent Bob Krumenaker, “and our entire park family extends sincere condolences to the hiker’s family and friends.”
