BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, TEXAS – On the evening of April 21, the National Park Service and Architectural Resources Group hosted a special virtual “first look” presentation on the current status and future of the Chisos Mountains Lodge. Attendees from around Texas and the nation logged in to learn about the challenges of the current facility, rationale for possible replacement versus rehabilitation, and to see for the first time a variety of site plans, floorplans, and artist renderings of a potential replacement for the Chisos Mountains Lodge main building.
Interested parties may now review a recording of the presentation on the Big Bend National Park website at:https://go.nps.gov/chisoslodgefuture
This presentation also serves to notify the public of proposed changes to Lodge facilities under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The National Park Service invites written comments on the Chisos Lodge replacement proposal. Please submit comments after the presentation date via electronic mail to: ChisosLodge_Comments@nps.gov
Please note that to be considered, your comments must be received by May 21, 2022.
