BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, TX – Beginning Monday, February 26 and continuing through Friday March 1, crews will be making emergency repairs along the western park entrance road. Visitors accessing Big Bend National Park from Highway 118 to the entrance near Study Butte/Terlingua will encounter single lane traffic and delays of up to one hour while crews repair a heavily eroded section of road base.

Work along the entrance road will begin each day at 10:00 AM and continue until approximately 6:00 PM. Park visitors are urged to arrive early. The other entrance to the national park at Persimmon Gap, located 39 miles south of Marathon, Texas along Highway 385 will remain fully open as usual.

“Safety of our park visitors is our number one priority, and we are working diligently to address some concerns along the entrance road,” said Acting Superintendent Chad Tinney. “Please follow all safety signage and be alert in the road construction zone. I appreciate your patience as we endeavor to repair the road before the busy spring break period begins.”

Updates will be posted through social media on the park's Facebook and Instagram sites, as well as the Big Bend NPS website at: www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/conditions.htm
