News Release Date: June 11, 2013 On June 7, 2013, Michael O'Brien, age 25, of New Orleans, Louisiana, was found deceased near the Homer Wilson Ranch in Big Bend National Park. Mr. O'Brien had a permit for conducting geology research in the Sierra Quemada during the period of June 3 through 6. On the morning of June 7, he was determined to be overdue and a search was initiated by park rangers. Cause of death is yet to be determined. Big Bend National Park's staff is saddened by this loss of life, and extends their sympathies to the friends and family of Mr. O'Brien.
