La Junta, CO – Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site is excited to announce a special program in the park from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, on Saturday, May 10, 2025. This free program will be the official launch of our brand-new bilingual Junior Ranger book!

There will be multiple stations around the fort that focus on activities related to the new book. Park Rangers will be available to assist Junior Rangers with completion of activities and to answer any questions they may have. If the Junior Ranger participates in some additional activities, they’ll have the chance to earn some prizes in addition to the Junior Ranger badge!

Those wishing to participate in Junior Ranger Day should meet with a Ranger in the shade shelter in the parking lot. They will hand out Junior Ranger books and give directions for where to proceed next. They will also give you information on the additional activities. At the conclusion of your visit, stop back at the same location to receive your badge and be officially sworn in as a Junior Ranger!

This program is designed to complete at your own pace; however, we recommend you allow yourself at least one and a half hours. Please dress appropriately for the weather, dressing in layers, wearing hats and sunscreen as needed. Wear suitable shoes for the environment. Please bring a water bottle with you. Restrooms are available near the parking lot, but not at the fort. More information about our Junior Ranger programs can be found on the park website.

For more information about upcoming Bent’s Old Fort programs, please visit the park’s web site or follow us on Facebook for additional information about the park. Check our page on the Status of the Reconstructed Fort for current information on the structure.
