Los Alamos, New Mexico - Bandelier National Monument and other National Park Service areas that charge entrance fees will waive those fees on Saturday, April 16 to celebrate the start of National Park Week 2022. Fee free days provide an opportunity to explore Bandelier or another national park for the first time or visit an old favorite. Entrance fee waivers do not apply to expanded amenity fees such as camping.

National Park Week 2022, which runs from April 16 - April 24, is a time to explore amazing places, discover stories of history and culture, volunteer, and find your park. The theme for National Park Week this year is sPark Connections. Would you like to spark a deeper connection to your national parks? With more than 400 national parks there are opportunities for everyone to spark their discovery and creativity.

The Los Alamos, New Mexico area is the perfect place to find your park and spark exploration during National Park Week 2022. In addition to Bandelier, the area is home to two other NPS sites:

  • Valles Caldera National Preserve – explore the rich human history and high-alpine ecosystems found within a large volcanic caldera. Visitors can explore the geologic history of the region, scenic vistas, and watch wildlife.
  • Manhattan Project National Historical Park– learn about one of the most transformative events of the 20th century – the development of the world’s first atomic bombs and the complicated legacies associated with the dawn of the nuclear age. Stop by the visitor center and explore downtown Los Alamos through a walking tour that highlights museums, historic places, and early history of the area.

National Park Week is an annual national celebration for people to discover and enjoy our country’s remarkable network of natural, cultural, and recreational sites. The NPS encourages everyone to find a connection to the vast network of national parks which protect and preserve our natural and cultural history.
