NPS

Let Arches National Park become your outdoor classroom! A variety of opportunities are available to educational groups visiting the park.

Academic Fee Waivers

Arches collects a park entrance fee, but education groups may apply for an academic fee waiver. Fee waivers do not affect campground or permit fees that a group may incur.

Transportation

Arches does not have a shuttle bus system at this time; visitors must provide their own transportation in the park. Large vehicles like school buses or rental coaches can drive the entire 18-mile scenic road, though parking spaces can be difficult to find during the busy season.

La Sal Mountain Viewpoint, Courthouse Wash (Highway 191 or Courthouse Bridge pull out), The Windows, Panorama Point, Delicate Arch (oversized parking lot), and Delicate Arch Viewpoint have limited parking for buses and/or larger vehicles.

Ranger Programs

Spring through fall, ranger programs are offered to the public on a regular schedule. There is no need to pre-register for short guided walks or campground talks; tickets for Fiery Furnace Ranger-led Tours must be purchased in advance.

Hiking

Non-commercial educational groups may hike together on all park trails. It is recommended that groups larger than 20 people split into smaller groups out of respect for other hikers.

The following trails are recommended for self-guided field trips:

  • Park Avenue Trail
  • Balanced Rock Trail
  • Sand Dune Arch and Broken Arch trails
  • Delicate Arch Viewpoint Trail
  • La Sal Mountain Viewpoint
  • Devils Garden and Balanced Rock picnic areas
  • The Windows and Double Arch trails

Accessibility

Trails in Arches range in distance, surface type, and difficulty. Some trails may be easier to navigate with a group of students than others. Only a few trails have paved or hardpacked areas. Most have minor obstacles, steps, and uneven footing. Rain and snow may cause ruts or other obstacles on trails.

Please check each field trip listing for accessibility information. Trail Access Details provides a full list of all trails at the park and their distances, surface, obstructions, and elevation change.
