Notes: In the village and mission of Santa María Suamca on November 9, 1761, before Padre Ignacio Lizasoain of the Company of Jesus, Visitor General of the missions of this province of New Spain and Ecclesiastic Visitor General of the said missions pertaining to the Bishopric of Durango, whose actual Bishop is Doctor Don Pedro Tamarón y Romeral of the Council of His Majesty, who, having visited the said church, its baptismal font and sacred oil and holy chrism containers, as well as having viewed the sacristy, ornaments, side altars, and main altar, it resulted that His Reverence declared to have found everything appropriate and consistent with regulations. This book, in which are recorded the baptismal, marriage, and burial entries of the natives of this village and those of the Visita of Santiago de Cocóspera, was presented by Father Diego Barrera, Minister of Doctrine for His majesty in the said villages, and His Reverence having determined that its entries were made according to the mandate of the Holy Council of Trent, said that he should approve them, and did approve them, and that appreciation should be given, and it was given by the Visitor to the said Father Minister for his careful attention to public worship and his Apostolic applied zeal with which he proceeds to carry out his work. Accordingly, His Reverence charged him with a continuation of the same duty with which he has been and is presently charged, that in the future the said Father should certify each entry by day, month, and year in writing and not by numbers, signing each entry so that they will be in accordance with everything in the Roman Ritual. And he signed in the general visit in which he was engauged. I certify: Ignacio Lizasoain, IHS Before me, Manuel Aguirre, Secretary
