Notes: A Basque from Durango, Vizcaya, Spain, he was captain of the Presidio of Sinaloa. He was stationed at Horcasitas at the time the Pima uprising started and was quickly dispatched to the north. When the rebellion was over he was appointed to create the new Presidio of Tubac. While he was on one of the many campaigns after the initial uprising, his wife gave birth to their fifth child at Horcasitas, Joseph Antonio (the first of three to be given that name), on March 1, 1752. Father Segesser was the child's Godfather.====On the twentieth of December, 1718, I, the Licenciate Don Antonio de la Torre de Ondategui of the bachelorship of the united churches of this town of Durango, with license from the parish priests of the same, baptized Juan Thomas de Beldarrain, son of Marcos de Beldarrain and Agustina de Zamalloa, his legitimate wife, residents of the same town. He is a grandson on the paternal side of Marcos de Beldarrain and Maria de Jandategui, and on the maternal side, Sebastian de Zamalloa and Marina de Aranzeta, all residents of the said town. Godparents were the said Marcos de Beldarrain and Josepha de Jandategui. And in faith of the same I signed. Don Antonio de la Torre de Ondategui Don Juan Tomás de Beldarrain, Captain of the Presidio of Tubac died here (Guevavi) after having received all the Holy Sacraments on September 7 (1759), and was buried in this church beneath the altar steps.
