Notes: He was governor of Guevavi (Gutzutag) from 1745 to1751. Record #1547 calls him governor of Gutzutag, another name for Guevavi; Record #836, 4 March 1754, is recorded in both the Guevavi and Suamca registers - Guevavi says he "was" governor, Suamca says he "is" governor on that date? Record #2669 of 7 January 1754 is also recorded and both books and reads the same way. The Guevavi book says he "was" governor, the Suamca book says he "is." His first wife, María Rosa, died in 1751 and he married Rosa. He is never referred to by surname after 1751, but simply Juanico Ciprian, Cyprian, or Cipriano. This is a good example of the change from O'odham names to Spanish names. By 1756 he was married to a third wife, Cristina (Xtina) -- see record #2921. |
