Nature Day in the Park at Appomattox Court House NHP June 15, 2019From 10-2 on Saturday, June 15, 2019, Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and the Appomattox 1865 Foundation will host “Nature Day in the Park,” a day for visitors to explore the park’s natural beauty alongside its compelling history. The event will be held in the historic village section of the park, and it is free and open to the public. Come to the park for a day of nature sketching, an art and soldier life station for kids, and a special author’s presentation.
At 10:50am, Dr. Adam Dean of University of Lynchburg will present “The Creation of National Parks and The Civil War.” Dr. Dean is the author of An Agrarian Republic: Farming, Antislavery Politics, and Nature Parks in the Civil War Era.
Join us for nature journaling and sketching with artistic supplies provided. Artist Kelli Hertzler will be leading an Introduction to Nature Journaling session this Saturday, June 15, at 12 noon at Appomattox Court House NHP courtesy of the Appomattox 1865 Foundation! Basic art supplies will be provided, and the event is free. Feel free to bring your own supplies if you have them.
Stop by the Civil War toy and soldier life station that will feature hands-on explorations of soldier life and historic toys and games from 10am to 2pm in the field beside the McLean House.
Appomattox Court House National Historical Park will be open from 9am to 5pm, and the park will offer regularly scheduled Living History presentations and Ranger Talks throughout the day. The Appomattox 1865 Foundation will provide beverages and offer information regarding membership at the event.
