Appomattox, Va. – On Saturday, April 1, Appomattox Court House National Historical Park will participate in the 27th annual Park Day, sponsored by the American Battlefield Trust.
This year’s event will have volunteers working with park maintenance staff on a variety of projects to help prepare for the 158th Anniversary Event. Projects will include cleaning of buildings, repairing fences, grounds clean-up, and grass seed planting. Most of the projects will be located within the historic village of Appomattox Court House.
Participants should meet at 9:00 a.m. in the main parking lot by the flagpole and stay until the project is completed. Water and snacks will be provided, but participants should bring their own lunch.
Park Day is an annual event giving volunteers an opportunity to help with clean-up and preservation projects on some of the nation’s most sacred grounds. The American Battlefield Trust is a national nonprofit land preservation organization devoted to the protection of America’s hallowed battlegrounds. It preserves the battlefields of the Civil War, Revolutionary War, and War of 1812, and educates the public about their importance in forging the nation we are today.
Pre-registration is required and spots are limited so please register by March 29. Specific questions for this event should be directed to Alyssa Holland, Volunteer Coordinator at 434-352-8987, ext. 234 or by email at Alyssa_Holland@nps.gov.
