Appomattox, Va.: Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and the Appomattox 1865 Foundation are pleased to announce dates and performers for the annual Sweeney Summer Concert Series. Join us in celebrating the musical history of Appomattox County with this monthly series on the McLean House porch!

All concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring a chair or blanket to take in the music and historic setting. Food and drink are welcome (alcohol is not permitted on park grounds). All shows are free and open to the public. Donations received at the event will further the Appomattox 1865 Foundation’s projects to support the park. The Sweeney concert series pays tribute to the local musical Sweeney family, including the renowned popularizer of the banjo, Joel Sweeney.

June 23: NiteKAP
A trio of local Bedford musicians who perform an eclectic mix of American folk music.

July 28: Farm Use Old Time String Band
The Farm Use String Band plays their own high-energy style of Old Time Music, while staying true to the roots of the region’s rich musical history of traditional “pickin’” and dancing on the back porch and in the parlor music.
