Park Offers Cemetery Walking Tour Saturday, April 24
GREENEVILLE, TN – Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. Many visitors to Andrew Johnson National Historic Site have asked the same questions. How did Monument Hill, resting place of President Andrew Johnson and his family, become a National Cemetery? Are there any heroes buried there? Are there many locals? These are great questions and there is no better place to answer them than on cemetery grounds. With great enthusiasm staff at Andrew Johnson National Historic Site announces the second walking tour of the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. The goals of this program are simple, to introduce visitors to this local treasure and show why this isn’t any ordinary burial ground.
The walking tour is scheduled for Saturday, April 24th at 10:00 am, and will begin outside the Andrew Johnson Cemetery Lodge, located at 121 Monument Avenue, in Greeneville. Walking tours take approximately an hour and a half and involve walking on uneven ground and up/down stairs. Sturdy walking shoes are advised. Participants are requested to wear facemasks.
The tour is free; however, parking is limited and reservations are required. Please call the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site at 423-638-3551 for more information and/or reservations.
Andrew Johnson National Cemetery is administered by the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site, which is one of over 419 parks in the National Park System. To learn more about parks and the National Park Service programs in America’s communities visit www.nps.gov.
