June 17, 2016 Posted by: Zion National Park

At approximately 6:35pm, on June 17, 2016 Zion Dispatch received a call reporting an injury at a swimming hole in Pine Creek Canyon. A 46 year old male, heavily intoxicated, had jumped from a cliff into a swimming hole, injured his knee and was unable to move.

A litter tram of 8 was assembled while the location of the patient was confirmed (there are several swimming holes in Pine Creek Canyon). After there was a better idea of the location a litter team of 8 began hiking to the patient at 7:30pm.

The team reached the patient at 7:55pm at one of the lower swimming holes. The patient was packaged and carried to the trail head. At 8:40 pm the patient was loaded into the ambulance and transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.
