Pursuant to Title 36 of the Code of Federal Regulations, sections 13.40 and 13.50, the Superintendent of Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve (Preserve) has temporarily closed the Preserve to the taking of wolves under the State of Alaska’s hunting and trapping regulations.

The Temporary Closure does not prohibit the hunting or trapping of wolves on federal public lands and waters in the Preserve under the current federal Subsistence Management Regulations for the Harvest of Wildlife by federally qualified rural residents.

Prior to implementing this closure, the NPS consulted with the State of Alaska, held a public hearing in Eagle, and accepted written comments.

The Temporary Closure will be in effect from 12:01 a.m. April 14, 2010, through 11:59 p.m. May 31, 2010.  Portions of the state of Alaska’s Game Management Units (GMU) affected by the Temporary Closure are GMU 20E, 25B, and 25C.

36 CFR 13.40(e) Temporary closures or restrictions to the taking of fish and wildlife

From April 14, 2010 through May 31, 2010, the taking of wolves is prohibited except in accordance with Federal Subsistence Regulations located at 50 CFR Part 100.
