Anchorage, Alaska – Due to rain, cooler weather and moderating fire danger, Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve and Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve have lifted the restrictions on open fires in the preserves.

While rain and cooler weather have aided in suppressing fires in the Interior, higher winds are forecast. Fire managers are asking visitors and residents to not become complacent and to do their part to prevent any additional fire starts. Please make sure campfires are cold to the touch before leaving them.

Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve also has no fire restrictions.

Alaska has had nearly 3 million acres burned in wildfires so far this season. For Alaska wide fire information visit http://fire.ak.blm.gov/.
