Rangers and Librarians will Introduce Local Youth to the Every Kid in a Park Program
5600 South Land Park Dr., Sacramento

Park Rangers from Yosemite National Park will team up with Sacramento Public Library and the REI Village at the Belle Cooledge branch of the Sacramento Public Library on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm to celebrate the Centennial of the National Park Service. Park Rangers from Yosemite National Park and librarians will be on hand to lead talks, share books and tell stories about California’s national parks. At 11:45, cake and ice cream will be served.

Mister Cooper, a popular children’s musician, will also join the celebration and share songs and dance with the attendees at 11 am and 2 pm. Park Rangers will introduce children to the Every Kid in a Park (EKIP) program. The EKIP program gives fourth grade students, and those accompanying them, free access to more than 2,000 federally managed public lands and waterways such as Yosemite, Death Valley, and Golden Gate National Recreational Area.

REI will bring the REI Village to this exciting event, where kids can play games and discover their own national park adventure.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Sacramento Public Library and REI Village to celebrate the Centennial of the National Park Service,” stated Yosemite National Park Superintendent Don Neubacher. “The EKIP program helps introduce 4th grade students and their families to the wonders of Yosemite and other national parks. We are proud to share this special program and opportunity with the Sacramento Public Library and the Sacramento community.”

The newly expanded EKIP website has links to educational activities, trip planning, field trip options, the downloadable pass, and additional information in both English and Spanish. After completing a fun educational activity, the child can download and print a pass. The paper pass can be traded for a more durable pass at participating federal sites nationwide.

The EKIP program is part of President Obama’s commitment to protect our nation’s unique outdoor spaces and ensure that every American has the opportunity to visit and enjoy them. The program, now entering its second year, is a call to action for children to experience America’s spectacular outdoors, rich history and culture.
