Safety Closure Due to Wildland Fire - August, 19, 2017

The South Fork is an ongoing wildland fire which started mid-ridge along the north side of the South Fork of the Merced River drainage, approximately one mile east of Wawona, on Sunday, August 13. In order to maintain the safety of park visitors and allow fire management operations to continue unimpeded, the Superintendent of Yosemite National Park is designating the following area as closed to visitors. The area will be closed until further notice is given.

By order of the Superintendent of Yosemite National Park and under authority of Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations, Section 1.5(a) and Section (a)(1):

- All areas east of [Wawona Road] Highway 41 on Forest Dr. and Chilnualna Falls Rd., with the exception of the Wawona General Store [Big Trees Store] and General Store [Big Trees Store] parking lot.

Notice of closure will be posted and area will be monitored to ensure compliance. Your cooperation in complying with this temporary restriction is greatly appreciated. Please see attached map for more information.

The designation will remain in place until rescinded.
