Backcountry Campsite Reservations

Step-by-step instructions

1. Go to www.recreation.gov (Google Chrome is the recommended internet browser for making reservations and printing permits).

2. In the upper right corner, either Log In to your account or click on Sign Up to create an account.

3. In the search bar, type "voya camping" and click on SEARCH.

4.
Click on Voyageurs National Park Camping Permits

5. Click on Build Itinerary.

6.
At the top of the screen, enter Group Size (required). To populate all the backcountry sites at the top of the list, either type backcountry into the search bar or click on the Group column heading and select "backcountry."

7. Select the starting date for your trip from the calendar.

8. Under the backcountry lake you'd like to camp on, select the appropriate boxes for your trip dates, from your arrival date to your departure date. If you select the wrong dates, switch to itinerary view on the right of the screen to delete those dates from your itinerary.

9. Click on book now at the bottom of the screen.

  • If your site requires a Backcountry canoe for access, the cost of one canoe is automatically included in the price of your reservation.
  • For the Chain of Lakes Backcountry campsites (Locator, War Club, Quill, and Loiten), one canoe is included in your permit to reach your site, but extra watercraft are available. A pop-up box will appear after clicking Book Now to allow you to select additional (optional) boats or canoes.
  • If your site does not require the use of a canoe to access but has a canoe available for use, a pop-up box will give you the option to add the canoe to your reservation.
  • If no pop-up box appears, the Backcountry site you selected is a camp-only location with no canoes available.

10. Make sure the itinerary and costs listed on the right are correct. Then fill out required information on the left. Read the important information at the bottom of the page and check the box at the bottom to agree to it.

11. Click on Proceed to Cart or select Continue Shopping if you want to add more dates to your itinerary.

12. Make sure order summary is correct and click on Proceed to Payment.

13.
Fill out payment information and click Next.

14.
Review and confirm information and click on Continue. Your order is now complete.

15. Print your permit (you will be able to do so within five days of your trip). It is required to have a printed permit when entering the park. To print your permit:
