Voyageurs National Park Welcomes Autumn with Fall Color Update

Voyageurs National Park invites the public to enjoy the remainder of the summer and welcome in autumn by hiking one of the many trails within the park. As the leaves begin to change, what better way to explore the park than picking a destination and heading out to enjoy the beauty and solitude of Minnesota’s National Park.

“Whether by boat, car or foot, fall is a great time to get out, stretch your legs, and enjoy the autumn harmony before winter arrives,” says Chief of Interpretation, Tawnya Schoewe. Take a hike on one of the park’s 19 trails. Before you start hiking, visit one of the park’s three visitor centers and ask about the Hike to Health: Trails Passport program. Along each trail is a metal rubbing. Collect 5, 10, and all 19 rubbings to be awarded special recognition. As days grow shorter, and nights grow longer and cooler, leaves are starting the process of changing colors. As you drive to, hike, or boat through Voyageurs National Park, the color palette is starting to change from green to a hint of yellow and rust peeking through. More rust colors may be seen this year due to the drought conditions Minnesota has experienced. Look for golds, rusts, and yellows along the tree line and trails as you enjoy the sights.
