Jemez Springs, NM –In 1752 by flying a kite during a thunderstorm, Benjamin Franklin proved that lightning was not a supernatural power but a natural phenomenon called electricity. On June 20th, the Valles Caldera Trust will prove that flying kites is naturally fun for everyone.

Help color the skies during the Kites in the Valle event at the Valles Caldera National Preserve. Come to the Valle Grande on June 20th from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The event is included with entrance fee into the preserve;National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands passes are accepted. Arrive through the Main Entrance, located off NM Highway 4 near mile 39.2.

Bring a kite or two. If you like a challenge, create and bring your own unique kite and show off your high flying skills. This family friendly event will delight all with high-flying fun and soaring works of art. There will be "kite doctors" on hand to assist with minor repairs, and Public Lands Interpretive Association will be selling kites for those who forget to bring their own.
