King of Prussia, Pa. – On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, Valley Forge National Historical Park will commemorate the 246th anniversary of the arrival of the Continental Army to Valley Forge in 1777 with free family-friendly programming and hands-on activities.
The public is invited to start their visit inside the Visitor Center at Valley Forge where they will receive an event program booklet from the information desk and find light refreshments at The Encampment Store. The commemorative experience will begin in the park theater behind the visitor center with a brief welcome video and a 1/4-mile lantern-lit walk to Muhlenberg's Brigade. Along the walk, visitors will encounter uniformed soldiers building shelter, receiving rations, using historic tools, and guarding the soldier huts. At Muhlenberg's Brigade, the public is invited to explore the huts, where they can try on colonial clothing, listen to talks from costumed interpreters, and try their hand at 18th century games. Outside the huts, reenactors will demonstrate aspects of camp life at Valley Forge.
The Visitor Center at Valley Forge and The Encampment Store will be open from 9 AM to 9 PM for holiday shopping and light refreshments. Commemorative activities at Muhlenberg's Brigade will take place from 6 PM to 8 PM.
The full program schedule is available at go.nps.gov/march-in-2023.
