BEACH LAKE, PA – We’re talking about life jackets that is. Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River is seeking outdoor enthusiasts to volunteer to be Wear It Watchers this summer.

Do you love people-watching? Are you interested in supporting park research and river safety? Or are you just looking for an easy volunteer opportunity to support your local national park site? Consider volunteering at Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River as a Wear It Watch It Volunteer.

Volunteers work closely with the National Park Service and the JSI Institute of Research and Training Institute to observe, record, and collect valuable data on life jacket usage and wear rates by visitors who use the Upper Delaware River for a variety of different recreational activities over the summer months. This valuable data is used by the park to improve water safety on the river. Volunteers also inform river users of life jacket laws and safety tips.

This position is active on weekends during the months of June through August. All supplies are provided. A training orientation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the Zane Grey Museum, 135 Scenic Drive, Lackawaxen, PA. A virtual option will be available for this training as well.

If you have a friend that enjoys the outdoors, bringing them along is optional but highly encouraged! People watching and life jacket counting is much easier—and more fun—with a buddy! This volunteer opportunity is open to everyone but minors need to be accompanied by an adult.
