Effective June 15th, 2016 at 8:00 A.M., the National Park Service at Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot National Monuments will implement fire restrictions, comparable to those currently in effect within Yavapai County.

Yavapai County Emergency Management states the restrictions are due to recent wildland fires in the area, a high Energy Release Component (ERC), low fuel moisture levels, and low relative humidity levels which have resulted in high risk potential for large fire events.

Superintendent Dorothy FireCloud will increase existing fire protection measures within Monument lands by restricting smoking, specifically:

- Smoking will only be permitted in vehicles.

The use of liquid fuel stoves is still permissible at the designated picnic area at Montezuma Well.

Monument lands are always closed to the building, maintaining, attending or use of a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal or stove fires. Additionally, the possession and use of fireworks are always prohibited at the Monuments.
