2012 Arizona Archaeology Awareness and Heritage Month Activities
Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot National Monuments have scheduled many activities throughout March to coincide with Arizona Archaeology Awareness and Heritage Month. Activities are tailored for different age groups and will take place as described below:
March 1, 2012-Archeology Talk. At 10:30 a.m., Archeology Tech Melissa Philibeck will present a talk entitled "Location, Location, Location" at Montezuma Castle. Appropriate for ages six and up. The program is free. Regular entry fees will be charged: $5 per person 16 and older; 15 years old and under are free. Federal Interagency passes are also accepted.
March 3, 2012-Kids Day at Montezuma Castle. Free kids activities and demonstrations will be available from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., with a special focus on archeology. Appropriate for all ages. The program is free. Regular entrance fees will be charged: $5 per person 16 and older, 15 years old and under are free. Federal Interagency passes are also accepted.
March 15, 2011-Archeology Tour. At 10:30 a.m., Park Archeologist Matt Guebbard will lead a special tour of Montezuma Well to discuss the prehistoric people who lived at the site. Appropriate for ages six and up. Entrance to the Montezuma Well unit and the program are both free.
March 31, 2011- Archeology Talk. At 10:30 a.m., Archeology Tech Melissa Philibeck will lead an archeology focused tour through Tuzigoot National Monument. Appropriate for ages 12 and up. The program is free. Regular entrance fees will be charged: $5 per person 16 and older, 15 years old and under are free. Federal Interagency passes are also accepted.
Participants should bring water and wear sunscreen. Also, wear clothing and footwear appropriate for an easy to moderate walk. Visitors may call the Montezuma Castle Visitor Center at (928) 567-3322 ext. 221 or Tuzigoot Visitor Center at (928) 634-5564 for more information.
