Friends of Theodore Roosevelt National Park
to Sponsor Park Trails Event

On Saturday, June 4, The Friends of Theodore Roosevelt National Park and park staff will work together to mark some of the backcountry trails in the South Unit for the summer season.

Interested members of the public should meet at the Theodore Roosevelt National Park Visitor Center in Medora at 9 am MDT.

"The park staff and friends group realize that many people are involved in cleaning up or preparing for flooding in North Dakota," said Superintendent Valerie Naylor."But for those who need a break or would like to spend some time in the badlands, this should be a great volunteer day."

Volunteers should come dressed for the weather, bring a lunch, water, sun screen, hat, work gloves and comfortable boots or walking shoes. The work requires walking several miles on park trails carrying trail posts and tools.Volunteers will cover as many trails as possible, in groups of 4-5.The Friends will supply snacks for trail workers.

Interested persons are encouraged to RSVP by calling the park at 701-623-4730 ext 3401.

The mission of Friends of Theodore Roosevelt National Park is to support the natural, cultural, and scenic resources, and the spirit and sense of place of the three units of Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the Little Missouri River that unites them in the badlands of North Dakota. This will be accomplished by advocating for the park, raising public awareness, engaging youth, and raising funds for projects that support the park's mission and Theodore Roosevelt's conservation legacy.

Friends of Theodore Roosevelt National Park has recently developed a website, www.friendsoftr.org. Videos of well known North Dakotans and Friends Group members Clay Jenkinson and Sheila Schafer are featured along with videos from park visitors. Park enthusiasts are encouraged to submit their own videos about the park for posting on the website.
