Road repairs are in progress in the North and South Units of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Beginning on Saturday, September 22 through Monday, September 24, the pavement in the parking area at The South Unit's Wind Canyon will be pulverized, and no parking will be available to the public during this phase of the project. Repair work is also in progress on the Scenic Drive in the area of Johnson's Plateau.Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic.Visitors may encounter delays of up to 15 minutes. Road repairs and paving on the East River Road portion of the Scenic Drive in the South Unit will continue through the fall, until winter weather makes further work impossible. The work will continue next spring as weather permits. Last year's wet weather caused major damage to the North Unit's Scenic Drive; since last fall, the road has been open for only six of the 14 total miles.Stabilization and reconstruction of a large slide and repair of other road damage is in progress. The anticipated completion date is mid-October. During these road repair projects, visitors should watch for large trucks travelling to and from the work sites and should drive cautiously. For current conditions and information about the location of road construction, please call the North Unit Visitor Center at 701-842-2333 or the South Unit Visitor Center at 701-623-4730 x3417.Information is also available on the park's website at www.nps.gov/thro. -NPS- |
