A portion of the North Unit Scenic Drive in Theodore Roosevelt National Park will be closed for three days beginning Tuesday, September 8. Entrance fees in the North Unit will be suspended while the road is closed.
The closure will affect 8.5 of the roadway between Juniper Campground and Oxbow Overlook. A double chip seal of that portion of the road will be completed during the three day closure, weather permitting.
The first 5.5 miles of road will remain open, although it is under construction. The park visitor center, campground, hiking trails, and backcountry areas will also remain open.
"We regret that we have to close even part of the road but it is necessary for visitor safety," said Superintendent Valerie Naylor. "When the chip seal and road construction project are finished this fall, the road will be in excellent shape for many years to come."
The North Unit is located 15 miles south of Watford City off Highway 85. The park is open every day.
