Rent a Bicycle

The Encampment Store offers seasonal bike rentals for those who want to explore Valley Forge on two wheels, weather permitting. Rentals are not offered during the winter months. Please call 610-551-7870 with questions about rentals, or visit the Bike Rental Shop located in the lower visitor center parking lot during operating hours (check the season dates and rental hours below.)

Rental Hours
9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for rentals, final returns accepted until 5:00 PM.

Adult Breezer Bikes: $17 up to 2 hours / $30 for 2- 4 hours/ $50 all day*
Adult Performance Bikes: $22 up to 2 hours / $35 for 2-4 hours/ $50 all day*
Child Bikes and Trailers: $10 up to 2 hours / $17 for 2- 4 hours/ $50 all day*
*Limited bikes available for all day rental, first-come, first-served
Private Bicycle Tours
The Encampment Store’s fun and knowledgeable tour guides will lead your group on a bicycle tour past beautiful forests and meadows (and a couple small hills!) while sharing the history of the Valley Forge Encampment.
Private guides are available with advanced reservation for any day that the bike rental is open for groups of 1-9 participants. Groups that bring their own bicycles or have 10 or more participants may schedule a tour any day of the week. Tour start times when renting bikes must be planned accordingly in order for rental bikes to return by 5:00 PM.

Tours can be scheduled as two hours / five miles in length, or three hours / seven miles in length, and make stops at the Muhlenberg Brigade hut site, National Memorial Arch, Artillery Park and the Grand Parade (three hour tour adds Washington’s Headquarters). All tours depart from the Bike Rental Shop.
Rates include bicycle and helmet rentals.
Two hour tour:

Under 10 people: $30 per person (four person minimum charge)

10+ People: $150 + $15 per bike rental
Three hour tour:

Under 10 people: $45 per person (four person minimum charge)

10+ People: $200 + $25 per bike rental

You can rent bikes for 2 hours or less, 2 to 4 hours, or for all day (8 hours maximum).
Rentals begin at 9 AM and end at 3 PM. Final returns must be completed by 5 PM.
Rent bicycles for adults and children. Breezer bicycles, Performance bicycles, and bike trailers are available. See above for details and pricing.
All ages and skill levels welcome!
The smallest rental bike is 20” and recommended for children between the ages of 6 and 10, or measuring at least 42” tall. Attachable trailers are meant for children 2 years of age or older, and can hold up to 80lbs.

Please note, you will be asked to provide payment information when making a reservation; if a cancellation is made after the desired rental time, the 2-hour rental fee will be charged.
2022 Season
April 2 - May 29, 2022: Weekends only
May 30 (Memorial Day) - September 5, 2022 (Labor Day): Daily
September 10 - October 30, 2022: Weekends and Columbus Day
The bike rental shop is open from 9 AM to 3 PM. Final returns are accepted until 5 PM.
The most popular route for riding bicycles is the paved Joseph Plumb Martin trail. The trail is wide and most sections are fairly flat, but there are also some steeper grades that may not be accessible for some users.
