Old Lake Road Bike Trail

The old roadbed near the lakeshore between Lake Hotel and where the roadbed joins the main road south of Lake Junction (1 mile, 3.2 km one way) has a great views of the Yellowstone Lake. Typically closed in June due to bear activity, check with the Fishing Bridge Visitor Center for opening date. Leashed pets are allowed on this out and back trail.

Alerts: Be alert for bears: both black and grizzly bears forage in this area. Ride with bear spray, have it accessible, and know how to use it. Federal regulations require you to stay at least 100 yards (91 m) away from bears and wolves, and at least 25 yards (23 m) away from bison and all other wild animals.

Although this is a fairly flat trail it is narrow and would be hard to access with a hand-cycle. Leashed dogs allowed but travel with dogs off the boardwalk is not without risks. Please be aware that having a service animal in the backcountry or in this case the only trail in Yellowstone where you may walk a leashed animal may put you at increased risk for confrontations with wolves, bears, and other wildlife.
