Liberty Island, NY – The National Park Service announced today that on or about Feb. 8, 2024, the security screening and ferry embarkation facility in New York will move to a new location adjacent to The View Restaurant in The Battery in Lower Manhattan. The new location is less than 300 yards to the southeast of the existing location adjacent to Castle Clinton. Ferry ticketing operations will remain in Castle Clinton National Monument.

The temporary move is necessary to accommodate waterfront construction as part of the City’s Lower Manhattan Coastal Resiliency Project. Construction is projected to take about two years to complete.

“We have been working closely for years with the City of New York and NPS project managers to ensure a seamless transition to the new location for the millions of visitors that embark out of The Battery annually,” said John Piltzecker, Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island superintendent. “Visitors can plan their visit with the most up-to-date information from our website.

In 2022, 3.1 million park visitors spent an estimated $207 million in local gateway regions while visiting Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island. These expenditures supported a total of 2,250 jobs, $124 million in labor income, $201 million in value-added, and $304 million in economic output in local economies.
