Service animals are allowed in national parks. For a definition of a service animal, please see the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) definition.
- There are public water fountains located in the Visitor Center by the restrooms, in front of the Park Store (includes a pet bowl), and in the Technology Museum. There is also a water fountain at Track 9 in the locomotive shop, which visitors can use during shop tours. NOTE: The water fountain in front of the Park Store is seasonal (not available in the Winter) and is on top of a grate; the water fountain located in the Technology Museum is not wheelchair accessible.
- While we are an urban park site, we still have wildlife. Urban wildlife around the park consists of squirrels, deer, raccoons, birds, spotted lantern flies, chipmunks, and groundhogs. Even if they are small animals, please be careful and aware as some service animals may not be used to wildlife.
- There is a grass lawn near the bus drop off area, next to the main parking lot. All animal waste must be collected by the service animal’s handler and disposed of at one of the trash receptacles around the site.
- There are many surfaces outside around the site that are made up of brick, concrete, tracks, and cobblestone. These surfaces may be hot during the summer and on warm days.
- Service animals are allowed on train rides. The stairs used for boarding the train cars can be steep for a service animal. A wheelchair lift is available for use on one of the train cars.
