Programs and Tours
Cab Tour
Some cabs are open to visitors to explore. Cabs open to the public have stairs leading up to them.
Train Rides and Excursions
On days when there are train rides or excursions, there is regular noise around the Railyard. Squeaking from the historic train cars moving, honks from the train’s horn, and the ringing of the bell can be heard from inside the train cars. Additionally, there is a speaker system in most of the train cars, which rangers use to share interpretive information during the ride.
Locomotive Shop Tour
Our locomotive shop is a working restoration shop, which means there is frequent noise from ongoing restoration efforts. Foam single-use earplugs are available near the entrance of the shop.
Roundhouse
The Roundhouse can be smoky, and there are almost always the lingering smells of grease, smoke, and oil from years of steam engine operation.

- There is a sound system in the Visitor Center used to announce locomotive shop tours, Park Store hours, and emergencies.
- There are tactile exhibits in the Visitor Center and Technology Museum that visitors are welcome to touch.
