Citizen Science

Sitka National Historical Park and the Sitka Sound Science Center host a number of citizen science projects, including checking bear hair snares, early detection monitoring for invasive crabs, fish seine surveys, and much more.

    Crab Survey

    Participate in crab surveys and watch for invasive European green crabs.

    Acoustic Monitoring

    Participate in acoustic surveys to detect species we might not see and assess the quality of the park soundscape.

    Help us set and monitor hair traps and remote cameras to determine how many bears are in the park and how they are related to each other.
