Tour Descriptions

Battlefield Tour

A 2.5-3 hour journey through the Battlefield Unit of Saratoga National HIstorical Park. You will visit the grounds where both battles of Saratoga took place, the American and British defenses, and other important locations along the 10-mile Tour Road! Tour begins at the Saratoga National Historical Park Visitor Center.

Siege Tour

Discover the lesser known part of the Saratoga Story on the Siege Tour! Following their defeat in the Battle of Bemus Heights on October 7, 1777, the Army from Canada withdrew eight miles north to the areas around the modern day villages of Schuylerville and Victory. With the arrival of American forces, Gen. Burgoyne encamped and began building fortifications. For three days, the two armies exchanged fire before negotiations began for a surrender. Finally, on October 17, the British and German troops surrendered their arms and marched into captivity.

This tour will begin and end at the Surrender Site outside of Schuylerville at the intersection of Route 4 and Schuyler St. Stops include the Schuyler Estate, German positions throughout Schuylerville, the Marshall House where Lady Reidesel and her children sought shelter with other followers, and the surrounding American siege lines, before returning to the Surrender Site to find out what happened to the two armies and the impact of Saratoga on the events which followed. This tour will also last approximately three hours.
