Visitor Center to Host Latin American Art Show and Sale May 24-26

CALABASAS, Calif. – An impressive variety of Oaxacan wood carvings, Mata Ortiz pottery and Zapotec rugs will be featured in the Latin American Art Show & Sale at the Santa Monica Mountains Visitor Center on Memorial Day weekend. The traveling event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24 through Monday, May 26.

"We're so fortunate to have these amazing artists visit our community to demonstrate their artistry and traditions," said Sophia Wong, store manager for the interagency visitor center.

Attendees can meet premier Oaxacan wood carver Jacobo Angeles and master Mata Ortiz potter Jorge Quintana. Wood carving demonstrations will be held daily at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Pottery demonstrations will also be held daily at 12, 1 and 3:00 p.m.

The art show and sale is co-sponsored by the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, the National Park Service and Western National Parks Association, which operates a national park store at the visitor center.
