Tucson, AZ – Saguaro National Park and the National Park Service are proud to join the city of Tucson and Pima County in honoring the life of labor and civil rights leader César E. Chávez with a fee free day. The public is invited to come out to Saguaro National Park on Friday, March 31st to learn more about Chávez’s impact on the Civil Rights movement and enjoy our amazing spring weather. César Chávez Day is celebrated around the nation on March 31st. This day brings together thousands of people to reflect on Chavez's life and carry out service projects in honor of America’s farm workers.

“One of the great elements of the National Park Service mission is our duty to tell the stories of great Americans. César Chávez was an Arizonan, a WWII Navy veteran, a recipient of the Medal of Freedom and an extraordinary servant leader. We are excited to offer a fee free day along with interpretative talks honoring the important impact Mr. Chávez has had on American history,” said Leah McGinnis, Park Superintendent.

“Duty and education were important to César Estrada Chávez. To that end, Saguaro’s Outreach and Engagement team will host two community conversations about Chávez's life and contributions on Saturday, March 31st. We will also highlight the César E. Chávez National Monument located in Keen, California,” said Cam Juárez, Community Engagement Coordinator at Saguaro National Park.

Saguaro National Park will host interpretive talks at each of our two districts, followed by a short hike after these two inaugural talks.

Tucson Mountain District (west): 2700 N Kinney Rd, Tucson, AZ 85743. The César Chávez: Si Se Puede! talk will begin promptly at 10:15 am, followed by a short interpretive hike at 11am.

Rincon Mountain District (east): 3693 S Old Spanish Trail, Tucson, AZ 85730. The César Chávez: Si Se Puede! talk will begin promptly at 2:30 pm.
