Cactus Forest Loop Drive in Saguaro National Park Closed for Maintenance, September 21-23
TUCSON, AZ – Saguaro National Park will close portions of the Cactus Forest Loop Drive in the park’s east district for routine maintenance and re-striping.
On Wednesday, September 21 starting at 6:30 am, the one-way loop drive will be closed to all vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. Javelina Picnic Area will remain open, along with the two-way portion of the drive providing access to the South Cactus Forest Trail and Freeman Homestead trail. The road will reopen when the striping is dry and the closure is not expected to last more than 8 hours.
On Thursday and Friday, September 22 and 23, starting at 6:30 am, Javelina Picnic Area will be closed and traffic limited to outbound traffic only on the two-way portion of the road. South Cactus Forest and Freeman Homestead trailheads will also be closed. The road, picnic area, and trailheads will reopen when the striping has dried and the closure is not expected to last more than 8 hours each day.
“Doing this work all at once limits visitor disruption later in the season,” according to Rich Goepfrich, Facility Manager. “We appreciate everyone’s cooperation with the closures and will ensure the work is done as efficiently as possible, while making the safety of our team and visitors a priority.”
Bicyclists and pedestrians who start their walk on the one-way loop on Wednesday earlier than 6:30am will be allowed to complete their loop.
