Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park is pleased to announce its 2022 Sculptor-in-Residence (SIR), Sean Hunter Williams. His time at the park will include open studio hours Wednesday through Sunday from June through October, regular presentations discussing the process of bronze sculpture as practiced historically and by contemporary sculptors, and a series of Saturday afternoon sketching and sculpture workshops.

Sean is a second-generation stone carver from Barre, Vermont. He graduated with a BFA from the University of Pennsylvania after transferring from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. After graduating, he lived in Berlin, Germany for four years to explore the arts and culture before moving back to Vermont to apprentice with his father at Barre Sculpture Studios, where he learned the craft of stone carving.

At Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park he will be pursuing studio work exploring contemporary figurative sculpture. “This residency is not only a beautiful place to work and educate, but to contextualize my own work in a great tradition of American sculpture,” Sean said. “It's literally a dream come true.” A portfolio of his art can be viewed at Sean Hunter Williams

“Sean carries on the character and traditions of Saint-Gaudens and the Cornish Colony with his exceptional craftsmanship, creativity, and joy for life.” said Superintendent Rick Kendall. “He is incredibly down-to-earth, approachable, and skilled at explaining his craft. We encourage park visitors to engage with him at work in the historic Ravine Studio, and for those looking for firsthand experience, to attend one or more of his workshops.”
