Redwood Coast State Park Superintendent Bruce Lynn has announced that EDAW, Inc. is the consultant selected to prepare a General Plan Amendment for the Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park and Mill Creek addition. Once adopted, the General Plan Amendment will become a component of the existing Redwood National and State Parks General Management Plan/General Plan.

The Mill Creek addition to Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park is located in Del Norte County, bordered by Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park to the north, Six Rivers National Forest to the east, and private industrial timber lands to the south. This addition includes approximately 25,000 acres and primarily encompasses the Mill Creek and Rock Creek watersheds. These drainages are significant tributaries to the Wild and Scenic Smith River. The property has a long history of timber harvest activities dating back to the 1850’s.

The consultant will facilitate the California State Park General Plan process, including public input and review. Typically issues to be addressed in the General Planning process include; a purpose and vision for the unit, appropriate land use, circulation and facility development, natural and cultural resource management, and interpretation.

The process is expected to take approximately eighteen months to the development of a final draft plan. There will be a number of opportunities for public input in the development of the plan which will be specified as the process gets started.
