Crescent City, CA—In order to perform bridge replacement work, the Lost Man Creek Trail in Redwood National Park—and its access road from Hwy. 101 to the trailhead and picnic area—will be closed to the public starting Aug. 16, 2021. The closure includes the entire Lost Man Creek Trail, including its southern entrance on Bald Hills Road. The portion of the Davison Bike Trail on the east side of Hwy. 101 will also be closed at the south gate. Work is expected to be completed for reopening by Dec. 22, 2021.
For visitor safety, it is necessary to close this narrow gravel roadway to this popular hiking and biking trail while the work is being conducted. Heavy machinery will be operating while two existing bridges will be completely removed and replaced.
Alternative bike trails for exploring the beautiful old-growth forests of Redwood National and State Parks include: Little Bald Hills Trail, Ossagon Trail, Coastal Trail Gold Bluffs Beach Section, and the Coastal Trail Last Chance Grade Section.
