Beginning Tuesday, May 31 through June 10, the portion of scenic Howland Hill Road running through Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park will be closed to all vehicle traffic on week days for annual maintenance of the road. This maintenance work is anticipated to take approximately two weeks and is scheduled to be completed by June 10 or sooner. Howland Hill Road will be re-open on Friday afternoon and remain open through Sunday evening for weekend visitors. It is necessary to close this narrow, gravel roadway to all public vehicle traffic for visitor safety. Locked gates at each end of the roadway will block access for vehicles. Visitors may enter the area on foot but should use caution, especially in the vicinity of equipment. Please do not block gates when parking at either end of the road.
Alternative scenic drives for exploring the beautiful old-growth forests and coast views of Redwood National and State Parks include: the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, Requa Road to the Klamath River Overlook, Bald Hills Road, and Highway 199. For more information on other opportunities to explore Redwood National and State Parks, please call 707-465-7335 or stop by any of the park’s visitor centers.
