Contact: Emily Christian, 707-465-7346 Visitors to Redwood National and State Parks wishing to explore Gold Bluffs Beach and Fern Canyon need be aware that Davison Road is closed to vehicle traffic Tuesday through Thursday this week and next: Oct. 24 – 26, and Oct. 31 – Nov. 2. The Gold Bluffs Beach Campground will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 24 and 25, but open for camping Thursday evening Oct. 26. It will also be closed for camping the following week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 30 through Nov. 1, but open for camping again beginning the evening of Thursday, Nov. 2.
There will be no visitor access during the closure. This temporary inconvenience ensures safety to both parks visitors and maintenance employees while road work is conducted to improve Davison Road conditions.
In spite of the closure, there are still many fun opportunities to explore the wonders of Redwood National and State Parks, and camping is still available at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Take advantage of beautiful October weather to enjoy the beauty of the redwood forest, open prairies and wild beaches without summer crowds.
Visitors can check for road and trail conditions throughout Redwood National and State Parks at four park visitor center locations: Kuchel Visitor Center, just off Hwy. 101 south of Orrick, CA; Prairie Creek Visitor Center located along Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway; Crescent City Information Center located at 1111 Second Street in Crescent City; and the Hiouchi Visitor Center along Hwy. 199 just west of Hiouchi, CA. The visitor centers are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Current road and trail conditions can also be found on the Redwood National and State Parks website at: www.nps.gov/redw.
