This closure includes dispersed backcountry camping along Redwood Creek, and the primitive campsites at Elam Creek, 44 Camp, Flint Ridge, DeMartin, and Little Bald Hills.

In addition, fires are prohibited anywhere within Redwood National Park, and smoking is only allowed inside parked vehicles in designated parking lots. Backcountry campsites will be re-opened as soon, and fire restrictions will be lifted, as soon as weather conditions permit.

Elk Prairie and Gold Bluffs Beach campgrounds in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, Mill Creek campground in Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park campground remain open at this time. Fires are permitted only in established fire rings and grills within the state park campgrounds.

Labor Day weekend is typically one of the parks busiest weekends of the year in the parks. With state park campgrounds are already booked for the weekend, and the limited availability for additional camping spots, visitors are advised to seek alternative lodging or camping arrangements before they arrive in the area. Smoky and hot conditions are expected to last through the weekend.

Visitors to the area are advised to check current road conditions and campground availability in areas outside the park before their arrival in the area. With active fires circling the north coast, many US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and California state lands have instituted camping and fire restrictions as well.
