Point Reyes National Seashore is holding the 14th Annual Big Time Festival on Saturday, July 16, 1994, at Kule Loklo, a Coast Miwok Cultural Exhibit. Festivities begin at 11:30 am and continue until 4:30 pm at this Native American celebration, open to the public free of charge. Parking is available at the Bear Valley Visitor Center where the short 0.4-mile trail to Kule Loklo begins.
Native Americans, and others who specialize in native crafts, demonstrate such skills as basketry, wood carving, flintknapping, traditional clam disc bead production, acorn preparation, and tule doll making, and offer items for sale. Native American traditional dancers perform after 1 pm. Visitors can tour the replica village all day to view the types of structures that were used by the Coast Miwok.
Over 50,000 visitors a year tour Kule Loklo, constructed by volunteers and National Park Service staff, providing visitors an opportunity to learn about Coast Miwok culture. Formal programs for school children and other groups are conducted weekdays.
