The full moon on Thursday, July 2 ushers in the holiday weekend! Get your pie pans ready as the first ripe blackberries are being seen (and picked!) in areas of full sun along Highway 1. Brilliant scarlet thimbleberries are also ripening in the shade of Bear Valley Trail.

Scientists tracked a pink-footed shearwater traveling from Chile to Alaska. Of note: the bird spent two days at Point Reyes compared to only one day at other tracked locations!

[Harbor] Seal protection measures were lifted on Wednesday, July 1. Non-motorized boats may return to Drakes Estero and boaters may land at South Blue Gums Beach.

Fireworks are not permitted in Marin County, including Point Reyes National Seashore. All campgrounds are full over the holiday weekend and boat-in permits are also sold out.

New hours for July and August at Bear Valley Visitor Center; the visitor center will be open until 6 pm on Friday and Saturday. The Lighthouse will be open an extra day—Thursdays—through August. The Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center at Drakes Beach will be open weekends and Mondays (check ahead as it may close if staffing shortages occur).
