The National Park Service is moving forward with a project to improve the upper and lower plaza areas at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial. Thanks to funding from the Great American Outdoors Act’s (GAOA) Legacy Restoration Fund, this effort will fix important infrastructure and safety issues while making the site more welcoming for visitors. The project includes repairs to structural and waterproofing problems, updates to restrooms, better accessibility, and improvements to some interior areas and building systems — all while carefully preserving the memorial’s historic character. In addition, the project will address improvements for more parking options and a connected sidewalk network. These enhancements aim to improve accessibility and safety for all visitors.

Project Timeline:

Engineering and Design Phase: Begins in the 2025 season.

Upper Plaza Paver Removal: During summer of 2025, paver removals for structural assessment work will limit visitor access to the upper plaza; however, access to the Memorial Column, rotunda, and observation deck will be maintained.

Construction Phase: Anticipated to start in March 2026 and continue through November 2027. During this phase, the memorial and observation deck will be closed to the public. The visitor center and grounds will remain open.
