Guided Backcountry Hikes with a Ranger A series of off-trail guided hikes will be offered Wednesdays and Sundays in March to celebrate Arizona Archeology and Heritage Awareness Month, and will showcase the park's cultural resources. Each hike is up to three hours and up to 3 mi (4.8 km) round trip. Come ready to learn about past peoples of Petrified Forest National Park in a great outdoor setting! March 3, 2013 at 10 am meet at Rainbow Forest Museum for Petroglyph Canyon Hike March 6, 2013 at 10 am meet at Painted Desert Visitor Center for Lacey Point Petroglyphs Hike March 10, 2013 at 10 am meet at Rainbow Forest Museum for Mountain Lion Mesa Hike March 13, 2013 at 10 am meet at Painted Desert Visitor Center for Route 66 Walk March 17, 2013 at 10 am meet at Painted Desert Visitor Center for Puerco River Petroglyphs Hike March 20, 2013 at 10 am meet at Painted Desert Visitor Center for Lacey Point Petroglyphs Hike March 24, 2013 at 10 am meet at Painted Desert Visitor Center for Lacey Point Petroglyphs Hike March 27, 2013 at 10 am meet at Painted Desert Visitor Center for Route 66 Walk These hikes cross uneven terrain, and are not accessible. There may be mud, ice, cold weather and sun; wear appropriate clothing and footwear, sun protection, food, and water. There is a park entrance fee. Hike locations are subject to change based on conditions and weather. Hikes are open to the public, but numbers of people is limited because of the sensitivity of the archeological sites.
