Melany Sarafis Artists-in-Resident 2015
Following her successful but often stressful military career, she needed something more internal and "low speed" so she turned to landscape photography –a hobby she'd enjoyed for many years.Melany loves being outdoors, and is inspired by nature and history. It didn't take her long to discover night photography and gain an insatiable desire to master astrolandscape (night sky) photography. She feels a connection with the land and the people who were there long before modern times. It's these histories (and mysteries)—as well as the natural patterns and predictable rhythms of the landscape and stars—that drive her:how the current landscape was shaped, history of cultures that lived there, and of animals that once roamed there but no longer exist.
